The Interact Club will be holding a fundraiser for the women of Guatemala. The women in Guatemala are not educated and instead told to raise a family instead.

Interact Club is getting involved with this international fundraiser.

“We’re trying to raise money for women in Guatemala because most women don’t get pass the sixth grade. They are so committed to school that they ride there bikes for hours just to get there and they pay for school,” Junior Ethan Walker said.

Although the funds are not enough to solve the problem, Interact club feels justified in raising money for this cause.

“I seriously think it will because I think even though we might not make a lot of money we are doing the right cause and making ourselves better people,” Walker said.

“I think it will help the cause because we could probably be able to send a few people to school with knowledge and education. Also the cause will help the agriculture of the community,” senior Grace Kariuki said.

In Guatemala, at least two women are murdered each day. The situation in Guatemala is far from ideal and only futher proves that women in Guatemala need an education.

In regards to education statistics, Guatemalan women have enrollment into middle school from 7th to 8th grade is at 40%, a “depressing number” according to USAid.
